The older you get, the more important it is to eat right to stay as healthy as possible. According to medical experts, almost all the diseases that we have are caused or cured by food. So, food can save your life, but only if you choose a healthy and balanced diet. Otherwise, if you say “yes” to the foods that contain large quantities of sugar, industrial fat, salt, or any other inorganic ingredients, then you are ruining the condition of your health.

If you choose the right foods, you can prevent weight gain, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer. “When you prioritize food and teach people how to prepare healthy meals, lo and behold, it can end up being more impactful than medications themselves,” says Dr. Jaewon Ryu, interim president and CEO of Geisinger. “That’s a big win.”

Doctors will always know what you should eat to stay healthy, so, you’d better follow their example and respect their recommendations. “The idea of food as medicine is not only an idea whose time has come,” says Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, a cardiologist and the dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. “It’s an idea that’s absolutely essential to our health care system.”

Here are some foods that you will find on your doctor’s plate if you are invited over for a meal. Read on for more info!
