According to statistics, about 20% of the U.S. population lives in a traditional family system. As a sociological definition, a traditional family (also known as a nuclear family) is a family that consists of a man, woman, and children, whether adopted or biological. In general, the man and woman are husband and wife and their gender is male and female. A transgender woman who has officially become a woman, not only physically, but even in her personal documents and who forms a relationship with a man is still considered a traditional family.
However, in many countries around the world, other types of families are judged and discriminated against and it’s totally forbidden to formalize other kinds of families, except the traditional one. Unfortunately, some countries still discriminate against people who identify as LGBTQ+. To be more specific, legally recognized marriages between two same-gender individuals cannot be legally or morally allowed in certain countries.
As for the United States, things have started to evolve and people have become more open-minded. For example, statistical data shows that in 1970, nuclear families accounted for about 40% of U.S. households, but the percentage dropped to 25% in 1990. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2010, only 20% of all U.S. families were traditional. That being said, over time, people have begun to accept other types of families, not just the traditional ones.
Nevertheless, the type of family in which you were born or raised does not matter as long as you have grown up properly and received a proper education and healthy life principles and values. In most cases, abuse of any kind occurs most often among traditional families. Examples of other types of families include same-gender families, single parent families, cohabitation families and so on. Most of the time, same gender families are forbidden or discriminated against.
So, here are some celebrities who were raised by LGBTQ+ parents that prove orientation doesn’t matter as long as you were raised by people who love you and instill in you some healthy principles and values. Read on to find out more info!
