There are people who say that in order for a relationship to function, the man has to be 5 years older than the female. On the other hand, there are people who affirm that the man has to be younger than the woman, because either way, she has all the control.

We don’t know which affirmation is true, but we know that love doesn’t have age, so it doesn’t matter who’s younger or what age gap is between the partners.

In today’s article, we’re about to talk about celebrities, relationships and age.

If they can function with a huge age gap between them, especially being seen and criticized by the media, then it’s true that age doesn’t really matter.

1. Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones

In 1996, at the “Deauville Film Festival”, Michael Douglas send someone to tell Catherine Zeta-Jones that he wants to meet her. At that time, he was promoting “A Perfect Murder” and she was promoting “The Mask Of Zorro”.

Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith introduced the actors at a private dinner for the Zorro premiere. Douglas asked Zeta-Jones for permission to sit next to her at the table and after a while, he told her that he’s going to be the father of your children. The actress got upset when she heard that and decided to leave the table.

After some time, Michael Douglas sent flowers and a lot of apologies to Catherine Zeta-Jones and they got married on November 18th, 2000, when he was 56 years old and she was 31 years old.

Now, the couple has been married for over 20 years and they have two children together: Carys Zeta Douglas and Dylan Michael Douglas.

Michael Douglas has another child with ex-wife Diandra Luker, named Cameron Douglas.

2. Céline Dion & René Angelil

René Angelil and Céline Dion met when he was 38 years old and she was just 12. His discovered her amazing talent and unique voice and 8 years later, they started a relationship.

When the singer was 26 years old, they got married even though her mother didn’t approve at first. She told her daughter to think twice, because he already has three children and two failed marriages. In the end, their love was so strong, that everyone had to accept it.

The couple had a beautiful wedding ceremony at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica on December 17, 1994 and everything was broadcast live on Canadian Television.

The couple had together three children, René-Charles, Eddy and Nelson. In 2016, Céline Dion’s husband and manager lost battle with cancer and died on January 14th.

3. Johnny Depp & Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met when they were on set for the “The Rum Diary” in 2011, where Depp starred as Paul Kemp, a journalist who took a job at “The Rum Diary”, in Puerto Rico. Heard was playing Chenault, a woman who was attracted to Kemp, but was engaged to another man.

At the end of the 2011, beginning of 2012, the actors started dating. In 2015, when Depp was 52 and Heard 29, they got married in Los Angeles, where they had a private ceremony in their home.

The marriage didn’t last long, because in 2017, the couple filled the divorce papers.

4. Bruce Willis & Emma Heming

After a marriage that last 13 years and having three daughters together, Bruce Willis divorced Demi Moore in 2000. Soon after the separation, the actor didn’t believe in love anymore, but everything changed when he met Emma Heming, an English actress and model.

They started dating and in 2009, the 31-year-old women and the 54-year-old man got married on March 27th. It seems like the relationship with the ex-wife Demi Moore is greater than ever, considering the fact that she attended their wedding.

Even thought there’s a 23 year age gap between them, looks like the love birds found their soulmates, because in 2019, Bruce Willis and Emma Heming got married again for their 10 years anniversary.

5. Nicholas Cage & Alice Kim

Nicholas Cage met Alice Kim in 2004, at an restaurant in Los Angeles, where she used to work as a waitress. At the time, Kim was just 21, while Cage was 40. They started a relationship pretty fast, because soon after their first date, they got married on July 30th.

After the wedding, Kim traveled with him to South Africa, because her husband was filming “Lord Of The War”. The couple has a son, Kal-El Coppola Cage and they split in 2016, after a marriage that lasted 14 years.

I think we can all agree to the fact that age is not a criteria when it comes to love. Neither is nationality or race. Feelings, confidence, forgiveness and being good to each other are the most important things when it comes to relationships.

Just like the numbers on the scale, age it’s just a number. It doesn’t show someone’s worth, values and capacity of being a good partner. Even if a couple has split, age it not a factor, but just a side effect.
