9. The Pianist
Roman Polanski took the tough decision of depicting the life of the Polish-Jewish musician Wladyslaw Szpilman, a man who struggled to survive the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto during World War II.
Wladyslaw Szpilman became the house pianist for Polish State Radio in Warsaw. He played jazz and classical works for the radio 4 years, when Germany invaded Poland during World War II in 1935.
The Polish State Radio was forced to shut down due to Germans. Spzilman’s performance of Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor was the last song that people heard before the German occupation.
