CHRISTOPHER REEVE
It’s hard to imagine Superman in a wheelchair, but that is precisely where this actor ended up after a horse-riding accident. Even though Reeve was allergic to horses, he took antihistamines to play his role in Anna Karenina. This encounter made him realize how much he loved horses and continued to train.
By 1989 his allergies disappeared, and the New York native started competing with his horse, Eastern Express, with which he filmed Village of the Damned. After entering an event in Virginia, witnesses say the horse began the third fence jump and stopped suddenly. Still holding the reins, Christopher fell forward and landed on the far side of the fence head first, which shattered his first and second vertebrae. This accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.
While some say this is not a work accident, we could argue that Reeve would have never gotten on a horse if it wasn’t for a movie role because of his allergies.
