7. Joan Rivers from The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson
Joan Rivers was a regular guest on Carson’s Show, they had a good connection and they managed to get along amazingly well. At the time, Rivers received several offers to host her own program but decided to remain at “Tonight” out of loyalty to Carson.
In the mid-1980s, however, the relationship began to sour, as she found out that she didn’t make the cut on the list of permanent replacements after Carson’s retirement. So, she decided to accept Fox’s offer of having her own show called “The Tonight Show Starring Joan Rivers”. At that moment, Carson felt betrayed and refused to collaborate and talk to her ever again. When Jay Leno took over the show he respected the ban.
