The backgrounds in Bambi were inspired by Chinese landscape paintings

The backgrounds in the classic Disney movie, Bambi, were inspired by Chinese landscape paintings of the Song dynasty, an innovation by Tyrus Wong. This Disney animation was very popular all over the world and according to The New York Times, Wong “endured poverty, discrimination and chronic lack of recognition, not only for his work at Disney but also for his fine art, before finding acclaim in his 90s.”
