2. Sforzesco Castle – Italy
Castello Sforzesco is one of the most beautiful places in Italy. The castle is in Milan and it was build by Francesco Sforza in the 15th century. Nowadays, the castle represents home for many art pieces, such as those of the Museum of Antique Art, of the Picture Gallery and also the ones of the Museum of Musical Instrument.
Here you can even find one of Michelangelo’s incomplete last works, named The “Rondanini Pietà ”. If you decide to visit this castle, you’ll see a lot of breathtaking art pieces, including some 17th-century Italian pieces by Filippo Lippi, Correggio and Jacopo da Pontormo.
1. Alhambra – SpainÂ
Alhambra is a palace and also a fortress of the Moorish monarchs, which can be found in Grenada, Spain. The name is not Spanish, but actually means “the red” in Arabic and it’s most likely derived from the red color of the outer walls.
The palace was built mainly between 1238 and 1358, when Ibn al-Ahmar was the reign. He is the founder of the Nasrid dynasty, which is an Arab dynasty and also the last Muslin dynasty that existed in the Iberian Peninsula, overruling the Emirate of Grenada, between 1230 and 1492.
Alhambra’s buildings were constructed strategically on higher grounds and hills so that people can be in advantageous position when watching out for the enemy. Usually, the palaces that were built on hills were thoroughly fortified, so they were less likely to be invaded.
Today, Alhambra is a huge complex with museums and gardens that can be visited and it’s part of UNESCO World Heritage.
