Don’t decorate with a lot of tiny items
There are many people who prefer to use their tiny memorabilia to decorate their living room and that’s okay, but too many small items can give you the sensation of clutter and this can lead to visual fatigue. So, you should keep your memories and souvenirs in a special drawer and decorate with fewer objects.
Moreover, according to a study, people feel more relaxed when they don’t see many objects around them, so this is why they feel better after cleaning their house, because they get rid of unnecessary objects that tire the eyesight.
“I’m obsessive about spaces being uncluttered and personally prefer minimal styling,” said designer Eche Martinez. “So many times I walk into beautiful homes only to encounter endless tiny memorabilia sitting on the mantle gathering dust!”
Not having enough seats
When you start a new living room decorating project you have to take into consideration the number of seats for your guests as well. So, there should be enough seats for your conversations and social gatherings. According to designer CeCe Barfield Thompson of CeCe Barfield Inc. “as a rule of thumb, there should be enough seating to accommodate the number you fit at your dining table.”
Even though you buy a bigger sofa, you have to make sure that you keep a certain distance between the people who come to visit you. Instead, you can opt for elegant chairs, because in this way you can sit face to face to talk, so you will feel more comfortable and enjoy the conversation.
Don’t neglect the effect of pillows
Well, in terms of design rules, one of the most important concepts is to maintain the simplicity of the house, because the simpler it is, the better. But when it comes to sofa cushions, some interior designers recommend using a lot of colors and a variety of materials, because in this case, more is always better. So, do not be afraid to decorate your living room using a bunch of beautiful pillows.
“It drives me crazy when there are only two sad throw pillows on a sofa,” said Vaile.
