Protect your skin

As you already know, winter is the season that can dry out and crack your skin, making it more susceptible to various infections that can get worse if you already suffer from diabetes.

In general, people who suffer from diabetes also have poor circulation and may not realize that their feet are cold, so they may stay out in the cold for too long, which can increase their risk of frostbite.

That being said, if you want to protect your skin and reduce your risk of developing various life-threatening infections, you should wear appropriate clothing and boots in the cold weather.

Continue to be active

One of the most important things that you have to do whether it’s summer, winter, or any season, is to continue to be active, as physical activity can help you stay as healthy as possible, especially if you have diabetes. Your main aim should be to do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise every day.

It’s crucial to understand the importance of physical exercise when you suffer from diabetes. Some recent studies have shown that exercise can help you control your body weight, lower blood pressure, lower your bad cholesterol and triglycerides, reduce anxiety and stress, as well as increase your good cholesterol, strengthen your muscles and bones and improving your overall health and mood.

According to Michael Heile, MD, a family medicine doctor at TriHealth’s Family Medical Group, “healthy diet and exercise are likely as strong as any medication I will ever prescribe for diabetes and should be continued forever.”
