Create a storage space at the entrance
The first step that you have to take if you want to have an organized house is to create a storage space at the entrance. What could be more comfortable than hanging your purse or jacket on a hanger at the entrance when you come back home after a long day? Well, probably many other interesting things. However, all that matters is that a storage space at the front door would be very useful.
“Pick the exit or entrance that everyone uses most often, add good vertical storage for coats, shoes, and backpacks, purses or gym bags,” recommends organizing coach Lisa Dooley, founder of Your Organized Life.
If you have other items that can be used outdoors, such as bug sprays, umbrellas and sunscreen, you can store them in a basket there.
Keep your shoes in a special place
There are many people who don’t store their shoes in a special place when returning home and prefer to walk through the whole house with them. Not only does this contribute to the formation of dirt (and of course, you will have to clean it, which means extra work for you), but your shoes can also carry bacteria and viruses that can adversely affect your health, especially because you don’t disinfect your shoe soles when you come back home.
So, instead of washing and disinfecting your shoe soles every time you come back home, you better create a special place where you can keep all of your shoes. When you enter the house, you leave your shoes there, and that’s it.
Luke Babich, a real estate investor and the co-founder of Clever Real Estate, agrees with this innovative idea and says that it can “significantly reduces the amount of dirt, muck, and debris that you normally track into the house.”
All you have to do is to create a “no shoes in the house” rule and designate a storage space for them at the entrance.
