Rio Tinto, Portugal, Spain
It has been used for mining operations since ancient times by Iberians, Tertessians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and in modern times by Spanish companies. It is rich with copper, silver, gold and other minerals. It has been speculated that mining operations are the ones to blame for the pollution but we will never know since mining began over 5000 years ago. Oh, and it’s severely poisonous to anything.
