Believe it or not, one of the smartest men in the world married his relative, who was a second cousin on his father’s side and a first cousin on his mother’s side. They spent their childhood summers in Munich together, but in their teens, Albert’s family moved to Milan. Shortly after, Elsa Einstein married a textile trader named Max Lowenthal, and together they had three children, two of whom survived infancy.
