5. Midnight Express
This movie is based on the true story of Billy Hayes, an American college student who smuggled drugs out of Turkey and soon went to prison. He has many attempts of escaping prison, but he’s recaptured and brutally beaten.
In 1970, after he tried to smuggle 4 and a half pounds of hashish out of Turkey, Billy Hayes was caught at the airport while he was about to board his United States of America bound plane. He spent five years in a jail in Turkey, escaped and wrote a novel that is called “Midnight Express”.
After that, Oliver Stone wrote a movie script with the same name as Hayes’s book and it was directed by Alan Parker.
