8. Betty Ford
Betty Ford was born on April 8th, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois. She married Gerald Ford in 1948, and they were married until 2006 when the former 38th president of the United States passed away. Unlike the other first ladies, her moment of glory lasted only three years, from 1974 to 1977.
She realized her power and her influence as a first lady early on, and wanted women to know that their voices matter. After her husband began his mandate, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She made public statements about her health condition, although talking about this was a taboo subject back then. Her public disclosure made a lot of women confident and comfortable to look for medical treatment.
Betty Ford wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and she made a lot of statements about political and social issues. Not everybody appreciated her honesty, and for that, she received both criticism AND glory.
In 1982, she managed to succeed in overcoming her own dependency on prescription pills and alcohol. She wanted to help other people that were in similar situations as her, so she founded the Betty Ford Center, which is a facility for treating addiction and substance abuse.

Nancy Reagan for her love of the president and quiet guidance, Jackie Kennedy for her beauty and style and ability to hold it together after the terrible loss of her husband and Melania Trump for her beauty, intelligence (she spoke several languages) and her courage while keeping a low profile while the press demeaned her and her family.
