5. Leonard Nimoy
Actor Leonard Nimoy was born on March 26th, 1931, in the West End of Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of a Jewish immigrant couple from Iziaslav, Ukraine. They left their home in Iziaslav due to the pogroms, which are violent anti-Jewish protests.
His parents’ experiences as Ukrainian Jewish refugees influenced him during one of his most popular movie roles – Dr. Spock, a half-Vulcan, half-human doctor who was a fugitive minority.
The star spoke and read Yiddish his entire life until he died on February 27th, 2015, in the city of Bel Air, California.
