STEVE IRWIN
Though most people know him as The Crocodile Hunter, Stephen Robert Irwin was an Australian wildlife expert, environmentalist, zookeeper, and conservationist. He was passionate about animals and continued running the Australia Zoo left to him by his parents.
Ultimately this love killed him when on September 4th, 2006, he was pierced in the chest by a stingray barb in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef while filming a documentary.
Today, due to his influence, many zoos, streets, and parks are named after him. Besides this, his two children and widow Terri, an Oregon native he met when she was visiting the zoo from the states, now continue to operate the Australia Zoo.
