John Lennon
- Purchased item: his toilet for $11,773
John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, activist and founding member of the Beatles. He was one of the most beloved singers in the world and peoples’ favorite celebrity of all time, and his fans adored him immensely, shaping their lives according to the principles and values transmitted by Lennon. Well, between you and I, the truth is that they shouldn’t do this because, according to his relatives, he wasn’t the man that his fans thought he was, but John was a wife beater, he emotionally abused his son, and desperate for money and fame. Of course, his fans were probably blinded by his talent and that’s why someone even paid $11,773 for one of his toilets.
According to officials, Lennon had given his builder this expensive toilet to use as a plant pot when he bought a new one. The toilet was at the Tittenhurst Park home, where he lived with his second wife, Yoko Ono. The auction took place in 2010, and the person who made this purchase wanted to remain anonymous… Well, I think we can understand his decision.
Kiss
- Purchased item: coffins for $3,300
Kiss is an American rock band formed by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley. This band was known for its member’s face paint and stunning stage outfits. However, back in 1983, the band started performing without makeup and costumes. Kiss is still considered one of the most influential bands of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide, plus 21 million RIAA-certified albums.
In 2001, they launched the Kiss Kasket – a coffin decorated with a Kiss logo and images of the band members. Gene Simmons said, “I love livin’, but this makes the alternative look pretty damn good.” These caskets cost $3,300 and people could also use them as a drink cooler.
‘Dimebag’ Darrell – the guitarist of Pantera and Damageplan – was buried in a Kiss Kasket at his funeral in 2004, as well as his brother, Vinnie Paul, in 2018.
