Elvis Presley

  • Purchased item: his hair for $115,120

If you know who Elvis Presley was, you also know for sure that he had an amazing haircut – well, this explains why someone would buy his hair, even though it was the most expensive hair ever sold at auction. Elvis Presley was a famous and very talented American singer and actor. He is considered one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. People still worship and call him the “King of Rock and Roll”.

Back in 2002, Elvis’s hairdresser, Homer Gilleland, auctioned off a collection of Elvis’s strands of hair that he had kept since he cut his hair. Keeping someone’s hair for decades may seem crazy to you and me, but given that we are talking about one of the most adored stars in the world of rock and roll, this action can be somehow justified. Of course, buying someone’s hair for $115,120 is even weirder, right?

Russell Crowe

  • Purchased item: his jockstrap for $7,000

Russell Crowe is an actor, film producer, and musician. He played as the Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator (2000) for which he won an Academy Award, a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, an Empire Award, and a London Film Critics Circle Award for Best Leading Actor, and other ten nominations.

However, Crowe was a sex symbol at that time and a lot of women were obsessed with him. That was the moment when he thought that he would receive offers of up to $600 for his jockstrap, but it actually went for no more, no less than $7,000. English television personality John Oliver, the host of Last Week Tonight, bought the jockstrap and said that he did this for a donation to a Blockbuster video store that needed money at that time and was allegedly used as an attraction for customers.
