As for his extravagant villa, it was put up for auction a year before Hefner died. Representatives of Playboy Enterprises and Daren Metropoulos, a Greek-born, American billionaire businessman and investor, confirmed that Metropoulos’ bid was the highest, and he now owns the mansion.
Both sides refused to disclose the price paid, but a Metropoulos spokesman said the terms of the contract allowed the Playboy magazine’s founder to live in the villa for the rest of his life, which as we now know was quite short.
Initially, the mansion was estimated at $200 million, but local real estate agents said at the time that the price was a bit exaggerated.
