9. Hypatia
This Greek philosopher lived in Alexandria during a time of strict rules of life for the society members – and she was against all of them. Out of all her opinions, rejecting Christianity was what really made everyone angry and, unfortunately, got her killed during a Christian mob.
Many modern day historians think that Hypatia’s death was actually the downfall of the Alexandrian intellectual life. Whilw that is arguable, one thing’s for sure: she died a virgin.
