Snoop Dogg
- Crime: he was charged with first-degree murder in 1993
Snoop Dogg, or Calvin Broadus, is an American rapper who became famous for his duet with Dr. Dre in ‘Ain’t Nothin but a G Thing’. Snoop Dogg managed to sell more than 23 million albums in the United States and over 35 million albums worldwide. He is still considered one of the most influential celebrities in the world.
However, his past was not always rainbows and butterflies, because when he was only 21 years old, he was charged with first degree murder. It happened because a member of a rival gang was shot and killed by his bodyguard, McKinley Lee. McKinley Lee, also known as Malik, pulled the trigger while he was in Snoop’s car.
Nevertheless, the famous rapper and his bodyguard were defended by Johnnie Cochran (a hard-working, talented and famous American lawyer) at the trial, and were both found not guilty on grounds of self-defense.
Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle
- Crime: allegedly raped an unconscious woman with a soda bottle that caused her death a week later, in 1921
Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle was an American silent film actor who starred in notable films, such as ”His Wedding Night,” “Coney Island,” and “Out West.” Arbuckle mentored Charlie Chaplin and discovered Buster Keaton and Bob Hope. He was one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and also one of the most popular silent actors of the 1910s.
However, his career collapsed after a scandal that occurred on September 5th, 1921, when he rented rooms at the San Francisco St. Francis Hotel to party with a few women. Among these women was the silent film actress and model, Virginia Rappe, who was already in poor health because of alcohol abuse and multiple abortions.
She said that Arbuckle tried to rape her while she was unconscious. Rappe died a week later from bladder rupturing and it was long believed that the cause was Arbuckle’s action, as he tried to rape her with a bottle of Coca Cola. Authorities never found out if this hypothesis was true or not, but Arbuckle was found innocent at the trial. This case was widely mediated and haunted him until 1933, when he died.
