You should never call back
When you notice a missed call from an unknown number, don’t rush to call back. Scammers want to know if the number is valid and that it belongs to someone who is curious enough to call back.
“What they’ve done is reversed the trust principle,” Velasquez says. “When they’re calling you, you have that natural inclination not to trust. When you’re calling them, you’re taking action.”
Some calls can cost you a lot of money, even though you didn’t give them any personal information. However, if it’s important they will leave a voice message anyway.
