In Wyoming, the number of immigrants jumped from 16,000 in 2010 to 22,000 in 2015, which is a 38,9% increase. In 2013, almost a half of immigrants in Wyoming were from Mexico, with small numbers coming from China, the Philippines, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Those who live in this state are more likely to have a negative view of immigrants than those who live in any other state. According to PRRI, 48% of those born in this state say immigrants pose a threat to American culture and only 38% say people from other countries make U.S. society stronger.
10. North Dakota
Change in immigrant population since 2010: +72.2%
Current immigrant population: 29,000
This state has fewer immigrants than all but four other states. However, this state’s immigrant population increased dramatically than anywhere else in the country between 2010 and 2015 – a 72% increase. Immigrants make up 3.8% of the state’s total population. The top countries of origin for North Dakota’s immigrants are India, Canada and Mexico.
