Harding had a reputation as the editor of The Marion Star. The newspaperman began poaching journalists when he was only 18-years-old. After he became president, he even planned to stay on as an associate editor at the 1884 Republican National Convention, according to the Marion Star. Unfortunately, Harding died before that could happen.
