Vitamin D can help you improve your mental health

Improving your mental health is one of the most important things that you have to do for maintaining your well-being and peace of mind. What many people don’t know is that your mental health can be affected by a lot of internal and external factors, such as various stressful environments, the foods that you choose to eat, your lifestyle, staying too much indoors without exposing your body to sunlight and so on.

According to health experts, there has always been a strong link between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of developing anxiety and depression. For example, a 2010 study done by Penckofer Sue and colleagues, on the effects of vitamin D on depression, published in the Issues Ment. Health Nurs., shows that people who suffer from vitamin D deficiency but take supplements are more likely to improve their symptoms of anxiety and depression at the same time.

Vitamin D may prevent allergenic diseases in babies

According to health experts, low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of allergic conditions and diseases, including asthma and eczema in young children. Recent studies have shown that kids who live farther from the equator are more likely to develop allergies because they can’t synthesize vitamin D due to lower sun exposure.

In other words, young children and adolescents who presented lower levels of vitamin D were more sensitive to allergens than those with normal vitamin D levels. Another study published in the medical journal Cureus shows that vitamin D is helpful in the management of asthma.

In addition, according to a study published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, healthy pregnant women had higher vitamin D levels than those who suffered from preeclampsia and eclampsia.
