4. Harry Houdini
Harry Houdini, one of the most important magicians that ever existed, loved his mother, Cecilia, more than anything. She supported her son in his career, and she kept sending him encouraging and loving letters while he was traveling from theatre to theatre for his shows.
Before he died, he expressed his desire to be buried with the letters he received from his mother during the beginning of his career. Harry Houdini died in 1926 and his grave can be found at Machpelah Cemetery in New York City.
Instead of having a pillow in his grave, they buried him with a cushion of his mother’s letters under his head.
5. Frank Sinatra
The talented singer loved his Tennessee whiskey drink that consisted of “three or four rocks, two fingers, and a splash”. Frank Sinatra died in 1998 when he was 82 years old. During his life, he loved sipping some Jack Daniel’s when he was on stage.
His friends and family couldn’t let him go without some of his favorite things, so they made sure to slip a few of them in his casket, such as a pack of smokes, a flask of Jack Daniel’s, a lighter, and a roll of dimes.
During his life, Frank Sinatra used to say that he carries around a roll of dimes with him in case someone makes an emergency payphone call to him. That started in 1963, when his son, Frank Junior, was kidnapped.
The famous singer’s grave can be found at Desert Memorial Park, which is near Palm Springs. On his gravestone, you can see some of the lyrics from the last song he ever sang: ”The Best Is Yet to Come”.
6. Leonard Bernstein
The well-known composer and maestro, Leonard Bernstein, used to travel with a copy of the book “Alice in Wonderland” wherever he went.
When he died in 1990, he was buried with several meaningful things he loved, including his maestro’s baton, a penny he used to consider lucky, a tiny piece of amber, a copy of his beloved book, “Alice in Wonderland”, and a copy of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony.
The grave of the talented composer can be found at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood cemetery.
