In 2018, he sang one of his songs to the judge during a tax evasion lawsuit. The court said DMX was “a good man” and sentenced him to one year in prison.
The years of abuse finally caught up with DMX just this year, when, at the age of 50, he was taken to hospital and admitted to an intensive care unit after suffering a heart attack that was caused by an overdose. Subsequently, the artist was artificially ventilated and went into a “vegetative state” with minimal brain activity, later on being pronounced dead. In 2016, he went through a similar event, when he stopped breathing and was resurrected in a parking lot.
