2. Psycho (1998)
If the original is the prototype of the horror film, Gus van Sant’s attempt to make a remake rather led to a fiasco. After all, why would a remake be needed?
Especially since Van Sant chooses to recreate everything scene by scene: the effort was aimed at a homage film addressed to Alfred Hitchcock, as a result of which an exact reconstruction made sense, only the reconstruction lacked an equally good acting.
Vince Vaughn, Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen, William H. Macy, Philip Baker Hall, managed sub-mediocre performances maybe because of bad casting.
Still, no matter how much failure this remake was, we can definitely give Gus Van Sant credit for his ambition.
