Metronidazole and alcohol

Metronidazole (sold under the brand name Flagyl) is an antibiotic used to treat several infections, such as protozoan infection, dracunculiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and amebiasis and so on. This substance stops the growth of certain bacteria and parasites, but won’t work for viral infections, such as common cold or flu!

According to medical experts, you should NEVER drink alcohol while you follow this type of treatment. Alcohol can interfere with metronidazole, causing severe vomiting. Severe vomiting leads to dehydration, followed by death if it is not treated in time. Some doctors recommend that you wait at least 48 hours after stopping treatment before drinking a glass of wine.
