Hypothyroid drugs and any food

Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) occurs when your thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough essential hormones. Hypothyroidism is also associated with obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease. There is a treatment for this condition, which is actually safe and effective, but you have to talk to your doctor about this.

In general, people with hypothyroidism take Synthroid (levothyroxine) to manage their hormone levels, but doctors recommend that you take them in the morning on an empty stomach (namely, about an hour before eating). According to Ashley Ellis, PharmD, director of clinical operations at Compwell in Collierville, Tennessee, the dosage varies from person to person, but your doctor will decide how much is right for your thyroid to work properly.

So, these drugs should be taken on an empty stomach because food usually cancels the absorption of the drug in your small intestine, lowering the dose you take, so your thyroid will also be affected.
