Paula Abdul
Paula Abdul is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. Abdul started her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Laker when she was 18 years old. A few years later, she chose another path for her career, becoming a choreographer and shortly afterward a singer, signing with Virgin Records.
Her debut studio album Forever Your Girl (1988) was one of the most successful albums at that time. She’s the recipient of numerous accolades, including seventeen MTV Video Music Award nominations (winning five), a Grammy Award for Best Music Video for “Opposites Attract”, and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography.
During an interview, she opened up about her struggles with bulimia nervosa. Abdul said that her eating disorder developed when she was 16 years old. She started to vomit after dinner because she saw her friends doing the same thing and didn’t know it was a bad thing for their health. She began to feel mentally well (but not physically) because she was in control of her weight, even though it was an unhealthy and life threatening habit. She even worked out up to 4 hours a day – which is also unhealthy.
