With more than one hundred confirmed cases in the United States of America and some deaths, people have to stay in their house to be safe, because coronavirus pandemic could affect everyone.

There are some things that every person should do often. “Cover your coughs and sneezes and wash your hands after you cover your coughs and sneezes, stay away from sick people, stay home when you’re sick. We really have to rely on what we would essentially call non-pharmaceutical measures and good common sense,” says Stephen Morse, professor of epidemiology at the Columbia University Medical Center and director of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Certificate Program.

If you have some symptoms associated with COVID-19 you should stay in quarantine for 14 days, but you can stay at home even if you are healthy because there are a lot of people who can carry the virus without symptoms and you can be infected as well. So, self-isolation at home is a good idea in these times of pandemic. “The CDC has great guidance on what people can do at home. The key is to start planning right now,” says Dr. David Callaway, chief medical officer at Team Rubicon.

So, whether you choose to stay home or you are in quarantine you need to be prepared beforehand. And you have to stock up on everything you need while you are home. “There’s been a lot of talk about stocking up on food, but also dog food, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, shampoo. It’s not necessarily because there might be stockouts or anything like that, it’s because you don’t want to leave your home and be around people,” said Tom Cotter, the director of emergency response and preparedness at Project Hope.
