Set a time limit on me time

Many people forget about themselves and their own needs, especially when they decide to have kids. However, if you want to have a healthy relationship with yourself, your partner and your children, you need to spend some time alone with your thoughts from time to time as well. Of course, you should allow your partner to do the same.

We have to admit that when you decide to have kids, your life will be more amazing and more beautiful than before, but it doesn’t mean that you have to give up your needs and desires. Indeed, the truth is that when you become a parent, your kids’ needs are a priority for you, but try to find some time for yourself and for your partner as well.

According to the psychologist, author, and parenting expert, Leah Klungness, “Your brain clutters up with ideas, thoughts, and emotions, much like your catch-all, messy kitchen junk drawer does. Me time helps clean it all out. Kids can learn to respect me-time rules. Setting a timer often helps.” You can tell them that “I’m going to drink coffee and read the newspaper for five minutes, and then I will be available to play with you.”
