Tonic water

Many people believe that drinking a gin tonic at the bar is way better than ordering a dark soda. Well, you should know that this is one of the most common mistakes that people make when it comes to choosing beverages, because, for example, 12 ounces of tonic water contains about 125 calories and 35 grams of sugar, which is 7 grams less than soda for the same amount, can you believe it? Just because it’s called water, it doesn’t mean that it’s as healthy as plain water.

According to researchers, tonic water contains quinine, sugar, and soda water. Quinine is a bitter compound that can be bad for your health if you consume it in large amounts. This substance is used in small doses to treat malaria in some countries. As I said before, quinine is a bitter beverage and some manufacturers try to soften the taste by adding sugar.

However, in general, people of all ages should avoid drinking sugary beverages because you can increase your risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. Kids will also be more likely to develop tooth decay. Quinine in tonic water is diluted and is used in small quantities, so the chances of experiencing side effects are small, but never zero. The most common symptoms are nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting and confusion. As we get older, we are more likely to suffer from various diseases, so if you have already developed diabetes, you should definitely avoid tonic water, as it contains sugar. In addition, people with hypoglycemia should also avoid tonic water, because in some cases, it can lower blood sugar levels due to quinine.

Root beer floats

If you are a health conscious adult, you already know that root beer is bad for your overall health if it’s not made by you with natural ingredients. In other words, some manufacturers have taken advantage of this traditional drink and turned it into an artificial beverage that is bad for your body.

According to experts, this drink contains high fructose corn syrup and sugar which can lead to obesity, heart disease and diabetes in the long run. The more root beer you drink, the more likely you are to develop these diseases. Not to mention that some recent studies have shown that 50% of high fructose corn syrup contains mercury which can be harmful to your immune system, brain and other vital organs.

Yet, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, caffeine and aspartame in its composition can also lead to insomnia, headaches, tooth decay, anxiety, depression and increased urination and these substances can be addictive causing you to crave more. If you still want to enjoy this type of beverage, then you should find a healthier alternative.
