5. Marvin Gaye
Everybody has likely heard of Marvin Gaye. But what many people don’t know is that he was flat broke for years. He liked to spend way more money than he was making, so he was forced to file for bankruptcy. He ended up sleeping on the couches of friends, or in the back of various vans.
Before he died, the singer had raised $9.2 million in debt. $4.5 million of them were owned to the Internal Revenue Service. He had to failed marriages, one of them costed him $600,000 in copyrights from his album launched in 1978, “Here, My Dear”.
He died a day before his birthday, on April 1st 1984, when his dad shot him 3 times. His father shot him because he made an intervention in an argument his parents were having.
