“Dimebag” Darrell Abbott
- Cause of death: shot and killed by a deranged fan while on stage with Damageplan, a heavy metal band.
Darrel Abbott, known by his stage name Dimebag Darrell, was an American musician, songwriter and the guitarist of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan. The band called Pantera was famous in the ‘90s, but the band split in 2003, so he formed another band called Damageplan with his brother.
In 2004, Dimebag was shot and killed by a 25 year old deranged fan named Nathan Gale while on stage with Damageplan. Gale was obsessed with Pantera and accused Abbott of causing their breakup. When he shot Abbott, he said “you broke-up Pantera” and then pulled the trigger. Nathan was killed with a shot by the police.
Andres Escobar
- Cause of death: shot 6 times after the 1994 FIFA World Cup by a fan for scoring an own goal that contributed to the team’s elimination from the tournament, but was scored for the United States who many Colombians hated.
Andres Escobar was a Colombian football player who was murdered by a fan in 1994 when he was only 27 years old. His own goal was a mistake, and unfortunately, he had to pay back with his own life – this is what his biggest fan thought, though.
After this tragedy, Humberto Munoz was sentenced to 42 years in prison, but he was released after 11 years of prison. Even though Andres shared the same name and country with Pablo Escobar, known as the Colombian drug lord (who was also shot by police just a year earlier), there was no kinship or friendship between the two.
