On a street corner
Giving birth on a street corner is the last thing that any expecting mother wants in life, especially since it had to be the most intimate and personal moment of your life. This is what happened to Polly McCourt in February 2014 in New York City. She started to feel sick and before going to the hospital, she left the babysitter to take care of her older kids.
Her husband called her a taxi to take her to the hospital, but while she was waiting for the cab, her waters broke, so at that moment she realized that she would deliver a baby right on the street. Her doorman and a random crowd helped her give birth. Her husband, Cian, arrived there a few minutes after their daughter was born and they named the baby Illa Isabel, which was chosen in gratitude for the kindness of Isabel Williams – a woman in the crowd – who offered the baby her coat to keep her warm.
Airplane
For those who are afraid of flying, imagine giving birth – or assisting one – right on a plane. Well, it seems that a baby chose to come into this world during a JetBlue flight in February 2019. Before boarding the plane, the mother said that she was fine and able to fly, but between Puerto Rico and Florida, she went into labor and was about to bring an angel into this world while she was literally between the clouds.
Of course, the flight crew was able to help the woman deliver her baby safely and after a few minutes, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Paramedics were waiting for her on the ground. Paradoxically, the plane that hosted the birth is called “Born to Be Blue”.
In 2017, another woman gave birth on a plane while she was flying from Saudi Arabia to India and the Jet Airways manager said that the baby will have free plane tickets for life.
