Goals and motivation

Goal and motivation contagion is a pretty controversial topic because it has two edges, namely that on the one hand, you can extract the motivation and goals of people with bad intentions or goals that are not exactly good for your life, such as certain actions that can bring you problems with the law, and on the other hand, you can copy the goals of someone that will make you successful in the long run.

When you have an interesting conversation with a friend and they tell you how happy they are with their actions, how motivated and determined are to do or achieve something, you will start sharing the same emotions and goals. Of course, this type of contagion is stronger with a friend or family member than with a stranger.

Cavities

Has your dentist ever told you that cavities are contagious? They have probably told you to brush and floss your teeth every day, avoid sugary foods and use antibacterial mouthwash as often as possible, but what many people don’t know is that bacteria that cause cavities can be transmitted through kissing as well.

So, it’s important to understand that even though you have a proper oral hygiene, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get these microbes if you kiss someone with poor oral hygiene habits. In general, cavities are caused by a lot of factors, including bacteria in your mouth.

However, kids are more likely to develop cavities because they don’t have immunity to this bacteria, so you shouldn’t kiss your children on the mouth (or other strangers if you want to avoid catching this bacteria).

  1. From page 2: “Their hypothesis is that these diseases coexist with an altered microbiome that exists in your gut, and in general, people spread microbes with the people they cohabitate or interact with. In general, these unhealthy altered microbiomes are responsible for causing the disease in other people.”
I can understand how this could be true. But if my microbiome is healthy and my spouse’s isn’t, the implication is the unhealthy microbiome will be passed to me. Why would the healthy microbiome lose to the unhealthy ones?
If this is true, than it is chilling and the implications are incredible! “… people spread microbes with the people they cohabitate or interact with.” So the people I work with for many hours most of the days in a week can affect my health because they are unhealthy. “Here try the cookies we made”, says the obese, unhealthy guy in your workplace. He’s being nice, right? I have a new and different outlook on things. It all makes sense, we should have known.
