You should reduce your sugar intake

As you already know, high amounts of sugar and carbs can lead to obesity and other chronic health problems, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. According to health experts, obese and overweight people are more likely to die if they contract a harmful virus, such as the novel coronavirus, SARS-COV-2.

Researchers have proved that reducing your sugar intake can be very beneficial to your overall health, especially for your immune system, because as you reduce the amount of sugar you ingest, the risk of inflammation will decrease.

That being said, if you want to follow a diet that boosts your immune system, you have to rethink your meals and reduce the sugar intake. Don’t forget that the diseases caused by excessive sugar consumption, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and heart disease, can weaken your immune system, making you prone to severe complications at the same time.

You can try to exercise more

Just like nutrition and sleep, physical activity is essential for your body to work properly, especially when it comes to boosting your immune system. It has been long proven that exercise can improve both your mental and physical health. According to Joshua Scott, MD, primary care sports medicine physician at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, regular exercise can reduce the risk of inflammation, improving your body’s natural defenses at the same time.

A 2019 study has shown that moderate intensity exercise can help you reduce the risk of upper respiratory tract infections, including the flu and common cold.
