GPS (1991)
It’s hard to believe now, in the era of Google Maps and Waze, but GPS technology wasn’t available to the public until 2000, when President Bill Clinton officially declassified the tech for commercial use.
Wim Wenders and Peter Carey, the folks behind the 1991 movie Until the End of the World, saw that decision coming a mile away. Characters make use of GPS throughout the movie, which also showed high-definition flatscreens in an era when TVs generally weighed a ton.
