According to the American Psychiatric Association, anxiety is the most common mental health disorder that affects people of all ages. Well, even if it is classified as a mental disorder, anxiety is normal in some cases, namely when you experience short periods of stress during an important event, such as speaking in public, moving to a new school, changing your job, or participating in other new activities. But if you are always anxious no matter what you do and you feel panicked even when there is no danger, your anxiety may be chronic and you will need specialized treatment. 

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has led to many tragedies this year, from the loss of loved ones and the spread of the disease around the globe leading to high levels of anxiety among all people, regardless of age. “It’s quite understandable the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to cause significant stress and psychological distress for a large proportion of the population,” Maurizio Fava, MD, psychiatrist-in-chief at the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, said. “And we know the rates are progressively increasing.”
