Can a substance inside a turkey make you fall asleep instantly?

There are a lot of people who believe that turkey contains a dubious substance that can make you sleepy and this is actually true. This type of food contains an amino acid called ‘tryptophan’ and according to some scientists, this chemical helps you relax.

But what you probably did not know is the fact that this chemical can be found in a lot of foods, such as cheddar cheese, chicken, tuna, pork, lamb, soy, oat, eggs and more. Nonetheless, no one has ever mentioned these foods as sleep-inducing products. 

So, excessive consumption of food containing carbohydrates, lack of sleep, excessive alcohol and large quantities of tobacco may be the causes of this frequent drowsiness.
