7. Tom Seaver

Regarded as one of the greatest Mets players of all time and the much loved leader of the Miracle Mets 1969 championship team, Tom Seaver was unquestionably a baseball icon. Nicknamed “Tom Terrific” and “the Franchise”, this legendary pitcher played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1967 to 1986.

After his retirement he moved into television broadcasting, using his considerable experience to become a well known commentating fixture for both ABC and NBC. In 2017, Seaver’s family announced that he would be retiring from public life due to being diagnosed with dementia and on August 31, 2020, Seaver would pass away in his sleep as a result of complications of Lewy body dementia and COVID-19, aged 75.
