Love is the daughter of psychotherapist Linda Carroll and former Grateful Dead manager, Hank Harrison. In 1986, Love debuted as an actress in Sid and Nancy, a film directed by Alex Cox, starring Sid Vicious, bassist for the Sex Pistols. In 1989, she formed her own alternative rock band Hole which broke up after the release of its third album, Celebrity Skin in 1998.
A rebellious, provocative and non-conformist Courtney Love was listed by Rolling Stone magazine as the most controversial female presence in the history of alternative rock.
There has been a lot of talk about the relationship with Kurt Cobain, frontman of the grunge rock band Nirvana, and there has been a lot of controversy. Kurt and Courtney met in the early 1990s, and their relationship was turbulent, marked by excessive drug and alcohol use.
