Before we talk about politicians’ wives, we have to say a few words about the woman who started it all: Shirley Chisholm!

In conformity with Vox, Chisholm chose to wear an all-white ensemble to commemorate her election to Congress in 1968. Four years later, she was the first Black politician to run a presidential primary campaign for a major party, and she campaigned in suffragette white.

In conformity with a newsletter that was published by the National Park Service in 1913, one of the National Women’s Party (an American suffrage organization) colors was white.

Suffragists used to wear feminine white dresses in order to destroy many stereotypes promoted by media sources and political cartoons, where they were presented as male characters.

After this movement that managed to make the right to vote possible for more people, especially for women, wearing white outfits turned into an appreciation for suffragists. This tradition goes back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Several female political figures started to carry on the practice of wearing white in order to honor the women who fought for the right to vote.

Now that we’ve established the beginning of making a statement with the help of clothing, it’s time to analyze these female political figures’ outfits!

  1. I really liked Jackie’s style during my time fashion was everything. I morn today to see that real fashion has given way to no sense of anything. The worse the fashion look s the better. I liked Michelle Obama for her sense of choice with her personal desires. Michelle was very conscious of the financial make of the country.
