5. Madeleine Albright

Madeleine Albright was the first woman who had the distinction of Secretary of State. During Clinton’s presidency, she used brooches as a way to symbolize the country’s diplomatic relationships, as she told NPR’s, Susan Stamberg.

Albright’s penchant for symbolic jewelry started when the then-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein called her a “serpent”. Back then she was a UN ambassador and that moment encouraged her brooch choices.

Madeleine Albright said that she had an antique snake pin that she was using when she had to deal with Iraq, and when she wanted to “deliver a tough message” she would choose a wasp pin.

In conformity with NPR, if the then-Secretary of State wanted to show that the diplomatic relations were moving very slow, she would choose a crab-and turtle-shaped brooch.

Many people were curious about the way Madeleine Albright was playing around with her brooches, so in 2009, she launched her book called “Read My Pins”.

  1. I really liked Jackie’s style during my time fashion was everything. I morn today to see that real fashion has given way to no sense of anything. The worse the fashion look s the better. I liked Michelle Obama for her sense of choice with her personal desires. Michelle was very conscious of the financial make of the country.
