7. The Bad News Bears (2005)
If Hollywood has proven anything with its remakes, it’s that nothing is sacred – not even, for example, Walter Matthau’s classic underdog from 1976 The Bad News Bears.
With indie author Richard Linklater and Billy Bob Thornton in the role of Morris Buttermaker, there were reasons to believe this remake of The Bad News Bears might be a lot of fun.
Then the movie was released, and there’s not much about it. Thornton pushes the sleaze factor far beyond the realm of the possible. Greg Kinnear smiles and smiles through one of his worst performances, and the brilliant Marcia Gay Harden is completely wasted in an unhappy role as a single mother/potential romantic interest.
