According to a 2015 study done by Gabrielle M Turner-McGrievy and colleagues, on inflammation in vegetarians and people who eat meat, published in the journal Nutrition Research, vegetarians have less inflammation in the body than people who eat meat. The explanation is that plant based diets are high in antioxidants and fiber – and antioxidants are good in fighting off inflammation in the body.

Antioxidants are very important for your body to work properly, preventing your cells from being damaged by some potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals. The most common healthy foods with a high content of antioxidants include: dark chocolate, pecans, blueberries, strawberries, goji berries, raspberries, kale, beans and spinach.
