Celery is perfect for people who try to lose a few extra pounds, as it is low in calories and nutritious at the same time. According to medical experts, celery is a great source of antioxidants. It contains vitamin C, beta carotene and flavonoids plus 12 additional types of antioxidants found in a single stalk.

Celery is packed with 25 anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Not to mention that this veggie is also good for your digestion.

According to a 2009 study done by A M Jiménez-Monreal and colleagues, on the influence of cooking methods on antioxidant activity of vegetables, published in the Journal of Food Science, celery is healthier when it is cooked.

Moreover, it’s important to remember that the number of antioxidants increases only through certain cooking methods, such as microwaving, pressure-cooking, griddling, frying, and baking. If you choose to boil them, they lose 14 percent of their antioxidants. Nevertheless, don’t forget that frying is not a healthy method of cooking!
